Passionflower for Anxiety

The passionflower herb (Passiflora incarnata) has been used as a natural anxiety treatment for many years:

It is effective at relieving the symptoms of anxiety and insomnia, working as a sedative comparable with benzodiazepine.

Passionflower is often consumed in tea form. It can be combined with camomile to form a calming and relaxing beverage. It can also be bought as a tablet which is a good way to achieve the dosage required for severe anxiety and insomnia.

At present there is no statistically significant proof of passionflower’s effectiveness, however anecdotal evidence in support of the herb abound.

Passionflower is reported to cause some side effects including: drowsiness, hives and asthma in some cases. The herb should not be consumed during pregnancy.
